Sanity Saver Sleeved Bibs

November 21
by Rebekah 21. November 2009 02:41
What an ingenious idea! I could not tell you how many times Dexter has made it all the way to the end of the meal… not a drop on his clothes… only to get itchy and rub his pudgy arms all over his dirty face. “Sanity Saver” indeed! http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=34705222 These bibs can be found in a pack of 5 for $25 in Meeshspieces's shop. They are an especially great idea for special days, when your baby is wearing his or her adorable dress clothes: Sunday mornings, holiday... [More]

When sewing goes wrong…

October 12
by Rebekah 12. October 2009 23:38
Often sewing makes me feel like I’ve done something great. I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished, and everything turns out wonderful. But, ugh… sometimes sewing can become a near nightmare. That’s what I experienced today. I made a mei tai for my sister, because she has her hands full with her newborn twins. In the process I broke three… THREE. needles. Within the space of five minutes. I was sick. After that, I only had three inches left to sew and something with my machine stopped working. I co... [More]

Tummy Time Mania!

August 29
by Rebekah 29. August 2009 07:40
I stayed up til almost 2am trying to complete some tummy time pillows for Dexter and my twin nephews. I’m making 2 per boy, because I found that Dex spits up a lot during tummy time. Instead of making him suck on the same puke-covered pillow, I decided it would be a good idea to make a couple so I could throw them into the wash when needed. I traced around tummy time pillow someone gave us, trying to estimate what size the pieces should be before sewing and stuffing. Mine still came out skinni... [More]

Repurposing old tees to make baby pants

August 07
by Rebekah 7. August 2009 22:48
I love doing projects! I especially love doing small projects for kids. I have great ideas for things I will sew for my little girl… if I ever have one :) So when I found out our baby was a boy, I hit a creative wall. I’m not about to attempt a button up shirt, and all the little romper patterns I’d seen seemed a little prissy to me (no offense to the romper-loving mommies out there, I’m just more of a skull tee and ratty jeans kind of gal). I roamed the internet until I found a few g... [More]

Review: First time use of handmade mei tai

July 31
by Rebekah 31. July 2009 14:37
I completed my mei tai right on schedule! I wanted to have it done by this weekend so I could use it on our trip to see friends and family. Later I’ll post pictures and the steps I took, along with the links to sites I used for instruction and inspiration! I’ll also give a more detailed critique of my handiwork and what I will do differently if there is a next time. Which I think there will be, I plan to make a “man-tai” for Alex, as he is much larger than I and loudly proclaims that he will... [More]

Life Change, Blog Change, Baby Carrier Change

July 28
by Rebekah 28. July 2009 17:45
So. Dexter is now 11 weeks 3 days old (well, 4 days as it's after midnight now). Things have started settling down. We're finally getting into a routine, a shaky one, but a routine nonetheless. I've been able to start venturing back into the wonderful world of art. I've completed one painting, a few crafts for my sister's baby shower, and started sewing again. My most recent obsession is making a baby carrier. I'll post more on that later. Right now I'm using a makeshift wrap from a length of... [More]

About

This is a glimpse into my daily goings-on as I morph into my new role as a mom. I hope to pass on tips as I learn and provide information about all things fun, crafty, and entertaining. I will also be using this as a forum to both brag about things I make and do and vent when I feel like losing my mind, as my current audience consists of a husband who's heard it all and a sack of jello named Dexter who's still learning head control :)
